About our program

About WRE

A typical WRE class consists of singing,  flag and Bible pledges, prayer, games,  snacks, prizes, Bible teaching, as well as  memory work.

The lessons are  non-denominational in nature and taught  from the Bible. WRE students are  presented a Bible to use at home. Bibles,  curriculum and materials are provided at  class. Students also receive a WRE  T-Shirt each year.

The students wear their T-shirts to school on WRE days and are  always excited to do so. Currently about  one third of the elementary school  enrollment is attending the WRE program.  For many this is the only Christian  education they ever receive.

Adult alumni  of WRE now profess that this program  later made a big difference in the  development of the most important  relationship in their life; The Lord Jesus

Christ.

Community

WRE operates with the support of qualified volunteers, donations, and community partnerships.

They are crucial to our work.

Churches

Owen County and area Christian  churches are also a big part of the WRE  program. Snacks and prizes are donated  by many of our church donors, as well as  funding.

If your church is not involved in  the life of young people, WRE is an  opportunity for you. WRE strongly desires  and encourages the students to seek a  church to attend if they are not already  attending. Churches are also encouraged to reach out to our youth. They are the  future of our culture and community.

Schools

Currently every Elementary School in Owen County is involved in the Weekday Religious Education Program (WRE). Spencer Elementary School (SES),  Gosport Elementary School (GES),  Patricksburg Elementary School (PES)  and McCormick’s Creek Elementary  School (MCES) grades 1-6 participate in  the WRE program through most of the  school year.

All WRE classes are held off  site but nearby the schools. Students  attend WRE after their lunch period and  opt out of their noon recess. Currently  Spencer and Gosport WRE students walk  to class. Patricksburg and McCormick’s  Creek students take a short bus ride to  class. The program sponsors thanks the  School Corporation and the bus  transportation system for their cooperation  with the WRE program in Owen County.

Your support can make a difference

The WRE program operating expense is about $25,000 per year. The program is  funded by offerings of the members  through sponsorship, churches,  businesses, community organizations and  individuals.
